The first thing I do every Sunday, without fail, is brew a cup of coffee and savor it as I read Pam's blog. You and your blog are a marvel and an inspiration. The people and events you highlight are remarkable and beacons of hope. I can never thank you enough for this uplifting start to each new week.

Pam Smilow and her art work are vibrant, friendly, and approachable. Her sophisticated yet playful use of layered color, texture, and iconic imagery arouse memories of childhood, favorite places, and positive emotions. It is all so familiar and recognizable; it just feels good to be in front of her art. Pam's late husband (Gert Mathiesen) also created fun and playful work, full of whimsy and wit. Our world needs more joy and so I'm always eager to introduce my clients and friends to Pam and Gert's work. The happy, colorful art of Pam and Gert can certainly enhance any home.
Love your blog posts, Pam! Reading them is like reading The New Yorker Magazine! Always something interesting, and inspiring… and if I don’t get to read them on time, they pile up to read on a rainy day.

Hi friends, Pam Smilow, an artist from NYC who I’m working with on a cool project, creates a free blog she publishes on Sunday mornings at 8am. It’s called “things we love.” It’s about all kinds of fascinating stuff. Pam is a phenomenal finder of all things interesting!!!Today she’s featuring my documentary, “The Return of Olli and the GoGos: A Rockumentary,” and other stories. You are all included on this email because you all are my most interesting friends. If you’d like to subscribe to Pam’s blog. The sign up info is below.

You are one of the loveliest women I know. An honor to have your friendship. This blog is especially cool. Sending you Ernesto Pujol's take on aesthetic, which I think you know already.
Love. Happy Sunday.

"Hey I love those yoga mats!!!
Also visited your art website. I find it so refreshing that well considered, deep artwork can also be light, agile on its feet, illuminated with unabashed positivity, that all around optimism of yours.☀️"
It’s been great hangin out with you Pam. Thank you for your work on your blog, it was a great read and muy interesting. And your art is sweet, in the best sense of the word.

More generally, I would like to thank you for your beautiful work and your offerings to the world, including your blog. I LOVED “The Tiger Within,” and have recommended it to many friends, especially those who work with teenagers or are involved in Holocaust education, anti-racism and anti-Semitism work.
Thanks again,
Allen Samelson
Your Blue Botanical Design has transformed my home! I have used the linen tablecloths as curtains and they are sheer enough to let the light in, but also opaque enough to create privacy. Every morning when I walk into my living room, I am greeted by this illuminated work of art. Thank you for your creative gifts which give me joy and style!

Pam, your work lights up my apartment. I literally thought about this piece for four years before being lucky enough to purchase it, and I'm so grateful to have it. I never get tired of looking at it, and I'm constantly noticing new things; it doesn't get old. As a first-time art buyer, you'd told me that it would change my home - and you were absolutely right. Thank you so much.

Your art in my home lifts me every single day, no matter what’s happening.
Thank you. It’s a gift!

We love our painting from you.

We are here to celebrate the wonderfully bright, soulful, funny, irreverent & talented Gert Mathiesen taken waaaay to soon. The shock is stunning - so unexpected.
Life takes interesting turns that want can’t plan. The day after my moving truck caught fire I was led to a store in Katonah where I spied a small painting of a pink cat that I thought would bring good luck. When I woke the next morning, I was horrified to see it was a black cat, which to me meant bad luck. I took the painting right back to see the store & to my embarrassment the artist, Pam Smilow, was there. Her good nature took the sting out of my embarrassment and she took me to her studio to pick out something else. I bought 4 large paintings that day and met Gert and young Morgan who must have been four or five.
We became fast friends & I had the privilege & fun of hanging out with them at the studio in the Schoolhouse. Gert always had a glint in his eye that gave me the feeling he knew things about life I would probably never know. Gert, Pam and Morgan were a joyous unified team working together or side-by-side on individual pieces and their creations poured out of the Schoolhouse. I marveled at their output month after month. Gert and Pam & Morgan played an important role in my life. The biggest gift was watching Gert and Pam raised precious towhead, Morgan, with never a moment discord. I finally got to meet Gert’s handsome son Jonathan on one of his visits. In their presence, I experienced a family in harmony. They restored my sense of hope after losing my parents & so many of their treasures in the moving van fire on the day I moved to Gert and Pam‘s neck of the woods in Bedford, NY. I’m certain everyone has been touched by them like I have. Their children & their art are a wonderful testimony to their inspiring and enduring love.
How fortunate are we to know this awesome family. Gert and Pam created beautiful, whimsical, colorful art. Gert will always be here. Bearing witness to Gert & Pam creative lives, filled with grace & generosity is one of my most long lasting treasures.

It is wonderful working with a fine artist who is sympathetic to the architectural elements of a house and the sensitivities of its occupants!

The painting is great. I see new things all the time. It’s perfect for the space. We’ve received numerous compliments. Glad we finally got it up.

I’ve been following Pam’s work for twenty years. Each piece is so unique. I love the way she makes it all feel so simplistic. She is indeed a very talented artist as was Gert Mathiesen her husband. Pam’s use of colour and materials has a certain whimsy about it and that is an art form itself.

It has been such a tremendous pleasure to have Gert’s and your art at the Consulate and if possible Christina and I would like to buy one or two pieces depending a little on the price.
Warm regards

I can’t begin to tell you how the artwork exhibited at Nordia House was. It goes all the way down to my soul in admiration of the work that you have brought to us. I hope we will be able to stay in contact to each other. I would enjoy hearing about your travels. Have a safe journey home.
Susan Magnuson
People are loving Gert’s work and the animal prints — including my mom! She picked the bird on the branch with the small house on there. Thanks for your work on the exhibition!

I’ve been meaning to send you a picture of your great jumper art! This photo doesn’t do justice but it’s really perfect in our bedroom. It’s the first and last thing we see everyday. I had another piece framed with the same materials so they are perfect pair. We just love it and we love having a piece of you and your work in our home.

I am not sure if you remember me, but my name is Alyssa. Almost a year ago, my best friend and I met you at the Brooklyn DUMBO Flea Market on our graduation trip to New York. You gave us two of your pieces for free, as long as we promised to vote in the upcoming Midterm Elections. I just wanted to let you know that we both kept that promise. We also helped many of our friends to register to vote, as well as gave rides to the polls for those who didn’t have one.
I got an email about the article that featured you in Piedmont Exedra, and I wanted to let you know I loved it! Your work is so beautiful, and you are such a light in this world. Thank you again for all the kindness you showed my friend and me, and I hope that you are doing well.
If you ever find yourself in Houston or New Orleans (that’s where I am attending school studying the music industry in a focus to copyright and industry law) I would love to meet you again.
Best wishes,
Alyssa Cooper.
